|| Lengthening Shadows ||

When the grey shadows lengthen
In the syrupy yellow-orange light
For the Sun, I know, it is time to go
And, for the shadows, to invite night

Some time back it was yesterday
But, already today is nearly gone
When will then, tomorrow come
Will it be there, when I am none?

I should be ready with my good-bye
Before I hear the knock on the door
Will the shadows knock, or just enter
To slay me silently like a sly matador?

Let me, therefore, trap the shadows
Before they permeate any farther
I do not want my shadow on her walls
When I call to say good-bye to her.
